Malkia Mutiri was born in 1985 in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and moved to Brussels in 1997. After studying at Art School Le 75, she started directing and editing music videos and promotional content.

From 2015 to 2018, she produced the monthly show ‘What’s in it for Africa?’ with Uzo Madu, exploring EU-Africa relations.

Her first short film, Miel, released in 2016, earned a special jury mention at the System_D Festival in Brussels. Her second, Ata Ndele, came out two years later and was selected for FICKIN in 2019 and the “Elles tournent” festival in early 2020.

By late 2021, she renewed her focus on photography and started working on REFUGE, which now serves as the basis for her third short film.

She currently lives in Brussels and has collaborated with platforms such as De Wereld Morgen, For All Queens, Sisterhood Collective, and Anaku.
