GAËLLE VAN LEDE
Gaëlle Van Lede lives in Hanoi, Vietnam, and has been the director of the Picha Art Center in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, for the past two years.
She began her career in public relations and event planning before turning her attention to fashion production, working in South Africa—alongside designer Thebe Magugu and under the mentorship of Trevor Stuurman—and in Belgium, where she collaborated with brands such as Delvaux and, among others, with photographer Marie Wynants.
She works as production manager for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
SORANA MUNSYA
Sorana Munsya is a Belgian-Congolese curator based in Brussels and the founder of Nsomi, a platform dedicated to critical reflection on art and society.
Her curatorial practice centers on ways of creating space, producing archives of the present, and practicing indiscipline through the lens of Black lives and Black creative practices. Drawing on concepts such as fugitivity, opacity, and reparations—and through exhibitions and discursive practices—she has, since 2016, developed curatorial and research projects spanning Africa and Europe in collaboration with institutions such as Kanal-Centre Pompidou, Bozar, Photoforum Pasquart, Kunsthal Extra City, and Kunsthal Mechelen, as well as with independent platforms such as Chimurenga and Afrikadaa.
GRADY BIZAKI
Grady Bizaki is a writer, editorial director of the BOOKIN publishing house, and a contributor to CultureCongo. He also runs the library at the Picha Art and Research Center, is the project manager of the theater company La Seringu’arts, a co-founder of the collective Les Ateliers Les Jeunes Talents, and a member of the writing collective Kiosque Littéraire.
He works as an editor for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
ANNICK M'KELE
Annick M’Kele lives in Brussels, Belgium, and is an author and journalist.
She’s the editorial coordinator for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
JEAN-SYLVAIN TSHILUMBA
Tshilumba Mukendi is a cultural actor, researcher, and writer based in Belgium, also serving as a coordinator at Picha Art Center in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. He earned a master’s degree in art history from Rhodes University in South Africa and focuses on contemporary African artistic practices, visual culture, and independent art spaces.
His work includes contributions to various editions of the Lubumbashi Biennale, as well as publications in specialized journals, exhibition catalogs, and academic texts. He is a project manager and coordinator for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
EMMANUELLE NSUNDA
Emmanuelle Nsunda is a researcher in art conservation and restoration, and a sound artist. In 2018, she founded Afrofeminism in Progress, an initiative that specializes in producing Afro-centered artistic and cultural events.
She works as a coordination assistant for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
JERMAY MICHAEL GABRIEL
Jermay Michael Gabriel is an artist, curator, and professor at Addis Ababa University. He also founded Black History Month Milano. His practice, which is both experimental and diverse, explores themes such as identity, memory, and transformation, organizing itself as a complex stratigraphy where buried fragments reemerge over time.
Through archives, architectural references, and hybrid visual languages—ranging from performance to photography and installation—he questions the epistemological constructions between Europe and Africa, deconstructing the imaginaries shaped or imposed by historical hierarchies and their stratifications.
His work explores the space between visibility and invisibility, balancing the act of concealment with that of uncovering, and encouraging viewers to revisit stories caught between forgetting, obscurity, and reemergence.
He’s responsible for fundraising for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
SEMI KANSENSE
Semi Kansense lives and works in Lubumbashi,Democratic Republic of the Congo, and is a visual artist and graphic designer.
He works as communication director and graphic designer for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
DADDY TSHIKAYA
Daddy Tshikaya Kashama is a visual artist based in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He heads the technical team for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
PROSPER ZONGWE
Prosper Zongwe Kalunga is based iin Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. A logistics specialist by training, he has been putting his expertise and dedication to work at the Picha Art Center for the past five years, contributing to the development and implementation of its cultural initiatives.
As part of the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale, he works as administrator/accountant.
GHERSHOM NANUKILA
Gershom Nanukila (Mister G) lives and works in Lubumbashi, DRC. He’s a performance artist and the artistic director of Eville Kongo Studios.
He’s the community manager and volunteer coordinator for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
IBRA KAMBAY TSHIMANGA
Kambay Tshimanga Ibra (Ivo Da Joker) is based Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. He’s an artist, rapper, composer, entrepreneur, an event and cultural organizer, as well as the founder of N’soko Art Business.
He leads the technical team for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
RUTH MPOMBO
Ruth Mpombo is an artistic photographer who lives and works in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
She’s the event manager for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
KEVIN KABAMBI
Kevin Kabambi is based in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a visual artist, he primarily works in photography. He’s a member of the Kiviringo Space collective and a co-founder of the Mampala Foto Lubumbashi festival.
He works as a photographer for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
NICOLAS WASAKWEL
Nicolas Wasakwel lives in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and is a visual artist working in photography and film.
He is a photographer and assistant producer for the 9th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale.
