Ghislain El Magambo Bin Ali Gulda, known as People, is a multidisciplinary artist from Lubumbashi.
An important figure in the founding of the Lubumbashi Biennale, he remains one of its pioneers and a living repository of its history. His practice spans performance, theatre, playwriting and comics, as well as audiovisual work and photography. Across these different mediums, his work reflects a sustained commitment to, and critical engagement with, the social and civic realities of a society facing multiple forms of crisis and conflict.
An independent researcher, he has spent more than twenty years researching the Kingdom of Msiri in Bunkeya, as well as the Kingdom of Mwata Kazembe in Zambia’s Luapula Province. He collaborates with the University of Lubumbashi, Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, and the Lubumbashi Museum, notably through projects such as Congo-Arab Heritage in History (CAHN) and Bunkeya Plurielles. This research results in images and audiovisual recordings.
