Mukenge/Schellhammer features Christ Mukenge (*1988, Kinshasa, DRC) and Lydia Schellhammer (*1992, Konstanz, Germany). Based between Kinshasa and Berlin, this Congolese-German duo investigates a formal approach that positions painting as a space for dialogue among different cultural systems, visual imaginations, and bodies. Their work, rooted in a broad post-digital perspective on painting, also incorporates performance, video, and digital media like augmented and virtual reality. Their practice combines Congolese and Western pictorial traditions with influences from contemporary pop culture. Their artworks have been exhibited worldwide, including at the BodaBoda Lounge Pan-African Video Festival (2020), the National Museum of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2021), ifa-Galerie Stuttgart (2022), Yango Biennale (2022), documenta fifteen (2022), Marta Herford (2024), Fellbach Triennale (2025), Museum of Contemporary Art and Multimedia in Kinshasa (2026), and Galerie Barbara Thumm (2024). They were artists-in-residence at Akademie Schloss Solitude (2021–2022), and represented by Barbara Thumm Gallery.
