Félix SHUMBA

Born in Zimbabwe
Based in Zimbabwe

Felix Shumba, born in 1989 in Bulawayo and based in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, is a visual artist whose multidisciplinary work revolves around the concept of Fold Field Space (FFS). This imagined landscape is independent of any fixed geography and functions as an inverted, parallel version of the real world, shaped by irrational logic. Within FFS, absurdity blends with themes of grotesque excess, obscenity, chaos, power, and violence. Sitting at the boundary of reality and illusion, FFS operates through randomness and contradiction, intentionally challenging reason and traditional sense-making.

Shumba excavates violent fragments from unsettled histories, removing them from their original contexts to explore potential futures. Through repeated, distorted, and theatrical artistic practices, these past remnants are reshaped and reinterpreted, gaining new significance. By breaking free from linear timelines, the artist creates unstable narratives that blur the lines between memory, fiction, and experience.
