Makwacha village

The village of Makwacha is located in Katanga, southwest of Lubumbashi. It is one of the youngest villages in Katanga, created in 1988 by two chiefs: Makwacha and his cousin Lumbwe. The new interest in painting huts has led to an increase in tourist activities since 2008.

Makwasha has become the village where women paint. At the beginning of the dry season, the women exclusively paint their houses using natural pigments. The "Kushiripa '' is a living tradition. It consists of coating the walls of the huts with water mixed with clay. The walls of Makwacha tell both the tradition of this village and its modern life.
